Last time I showed you the foundation of Mushroom World. Now I am going to build on that. Creating a piece of digital collage art takes time, patience, and creativity just like traditional art. Like painting or traditional collage, I build up layer by layer. Refer back to the post on 6/18 to see the first few layers I used.
To give some texture to the sunset photo, I added another layer and painted it with a grunge or texture brush. Separated from the other layers, this grunge layer looks bright pink, but not in the finished composition. By using blending modes, changing opacity, or using filters I can get just the right look I want.
The next layer is the grass layer. Remember, I am not trying to create a photo realistic piece of art, but an altered reality! I made my own “grass” using color and patterns, but it didn’t stop there. Everyone knows grass is green, right? Well, not in Mushroom World. I used a gradient and adjusted the brightness/contrast to give me the look and color of altered grass. What do you think the color of grass is in Mushroom World? What color of grass would you choose if you were creating a fantasy world? Let me know in the comment section.
