Peaceful and Comforting?

Post is going up one day early, because I will be involved in my group's (Creative Women) virtual retreat tomorrow.

We look at what is happening in the world today and feel discouraged. Listening to the news is a lesson in endurance, because everything is so negative. Sometimes when we read the Bible, we are looking for comfort, encouragement and hope. We focus on comfort Scriptures, like Psalm 23. Nothing wrong with that, except we must never forget the awesome majesty and power of God.
I was reading a passage in Ezekiel. The words are so powerful and inspire awe. The colors that came to me were yellow, orange, red, brown, and finally black. What I painted is not peaceful or comforting. Turbulence, motion, and power beyond imagination is why I picked those colors. No, what I painted is not serene and comforting. There is a time when everyone will give an accounting of what they have done. Just think about that.
Yes, we live in challenging and difficult times. Remember the birth pains mentioned in Matthew? As you meditate on the majesty, authority and power of God, do not forget His love and forgiveness. Even in the most difficult times, if you are connected to God through Jesus Christ, the awesome power of God will bring comfort instead of fear and there is hope in all of God’s Word.
